Let me tell you something about today. Today was the hottest day of the year in New Jersey, I woke up sweating despite air conditioning because it was 95 degrees. Now, i did what any logical person would do and I put on my favorite pair of shorts so i wouldn’t be sweating throughout the day.
Even in my shorts i was sweating my balls off but I went through half of my day as normal, no boys stared at my ass or tried to grope me in public yet when i went to the the cafeteria a teacher told me to go to the office because he finds my shorts inappropriate. I head down to the office to find a group of girls wearing shorts and skirts sitting in a small room in the office, we where all ordered to call our parents or to change into the clothes they had offered us from the school store. These items of clothing included sweatpants and a large heavy sweatshirt. I obviously refused to where those because it was 95 degrees and when you are sweating the key to cool down is NOT to put on more clothes. They told me I would have to stay in that room the whole day if it came down to it.
I was able to leave the office when my friend gave me a pair of yoga pants. The man who made me go down to the office brought down several other girls as I was leaving, at this point they didn’t care how long the shorts where they just sent everyone who was wearing a pair down. They warned me that if I put my shorts back on they would right me up.
I put them back on anyway because just walking down the hallway in those yoga pants made me faint, dizzy,and extremely hot. Thats the main issue, it is hot enough for people to pass out in school but to the school system they would rather a girl suffer from a heat stroke then to have a boy become turned on. My shorts don’t say “COme fuck me in the middle of class” they say,”Its warm out”
The sexualizing of innocent students is not okay
Risking students health is not okay
and tHE LACK OF FEMINISM IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL NEVER BE OKAY

I hate our school so much
It’s called LONGER SHORTS. Please. I live in Florida and had to abide by my PUBLIC school’s dress code of 3-5” above the knee. Yeah, it’s hot but shorts are getting more up girl’s asses every year. These shorts aren’t SO bad but…kids just don’t understand. It’s not a lack of feminism…it’s called self respect and following the rules. If anything YOGA pants are feminine. Skin tight clothing that hugs your rear end and under regions? I’d say that would be more cause for concern.
These rules are put i place for a reason. Girls want to complain about a guy calling her a slut? Well, here you go. Complaining about your shorts is one quick way to achieve such. Trust me, I understand how hot it could be…but while it may not look such a way to you when you wear these shorts - it says it to the boys around you.
I HIGHLY doubt every girl wearing shorts that are close to their knees was asked to change. Half of these girls more than likely had their rear ends hanging out of their shorts. This is the teenage mindset of “OMGaaaaaa, make things worse than what they are! BOOBOO!”
Jersey kids complaining about the heat makes us South Floridians laugh. RISKING STUDENTS HEALTH, OMGAAAH! Go home if it’s that hot. I’m sure there was A/C in your school.I am sorry if I sound crude but kids these days complaining about the above and having complete disregard for the rules bothers me. Go home if it’s that hot. Your shorts end at your ass and if you bent over, you can prob see it. That’s the problem.

As much as I hate getting involved in crazy internet arguments, this is one that I need to throw my two cents in on, because it makes me quite cross.
As an Australian, living in Australian heat, shorts like that are very common here. Knee length just doesn’t cut it when your shoes are melting into the footpath. A dress code is fine and dandy, but it needs to take into consideration the comfort of its students during hotter months. Learning is tough enough after all.
I understand how you feel, but your argument is a tad wonky.
“Self respect” doesn’t necessarily mean more modest clothes. For some people it is, and that’s ok! But sometimes people need to wear things that A-give them confidence and B-Are comfy for them.
And another thing, nobody deserves to get called a slut, and perhaps we shouldn’t be shaming the girls in shorts but rather the guys who think it’s ok to go around saying derogatory stuff like that.
I could go on for days about this, but I feel a little silly for getting into an internet fight as it is.

Most places in America have a desscode no more than 5 inches above knees. In Australia it may be common, but we usually don’t have 100+ degree weather in most places here, and when we do if it’s a danger schools usually don’t let students go outside and have air conditioning on.
I don’t agree with saying slut and all that mumbo jumbo, but I do agree that you do NOT need to wear shorts that short in school?? I’ve gone to 10+ schools in various places around the country and all of them have had the same or similar dress codes, and never have I had an issue with the heat and needing to wear shorts as short as depicted, EXCEPT during PE WHERE WE GO OUTSIDE DIRECTLY INTO THE HEAT, AND WE ARE GIVEN GYM SHORTS which are a bit shorter and allowed to be, along with plenty of water breaks.
If you are starting to get dizzy and stuff, don’t whine about why you can’t wear short shorts, go see the nurse and drink plenty of water?? Ask to stay inside in air conditioning because the heat is making you feel faint??

Additionally I’ve worn longer shorts all my life, sometimes in 105+ degree weather without any problems, your problem is you need to drink water because you’re clearly dehydrated, not overheated
